Funny 2 year-old story (if you're the grandma)

Kamery (Cassies 2-year-old) is in the process of being potty trained. She is doing quite well for day #3. They didn't want to put her in "panties" for church today because they were afraid she would have an accident in nursery. She did terrific in church and ended up at our house for a nap afterwords. She was still in the diaper for her nap. We put her in the port-a-crib. She went down quite well. Not a sound. A couple of hours later she woke up and David and Abbey were racing to see who could get to her the fastest. David won. A few seconds later we hear David yell, "Kamery........did you pee on me?" Not only did she pee on David, but she left a pile of poo right in the middle of the mattress. She had taken off her diaper, did her thing and was quite proud of herself for her accomplishments. She was grinning from ear to ear. I think she actually thought she would get a treat for her accomlishment.

We're still here!

Life has been a bit busy and I have fallen behind in updating everyone on the happenings of our little family.

We welcomed grandbaby #2 into the world on September 6. We had taken the family down to Salt Lake to enjoy the Lion King musical and Lukas decided he did not want to wait until we got home to enter into this world. He was a little early, but a healthy little boy!

We were also happy a week later to have David return home from his 2-year church mission in Alaska.

Letter from David June 28, 2010

Dear Family,
Thats exciting that Uncle Kelley is coming down to fish is he going to the kenai or homer or somewhere else. Life has been good this week I finally caught a king this morning at about 7 we started fishing at three because there are so many people that fish from the banks. It was pretty exciting not the biggest king but the biggest fish that I have caught. Tell Uncle Kelley to send me some pictures of his trip.. Things have been going well here with Elder Tuipulotu we had a good week we found some new investigators and we also got into a few more places which is exciting.. Its pretty fun doing service with Elder Tui he is hard to keep up to he works pretty hard. We also were able to go up to Talkeetna this week it was a good visit things are starting to well up there they are getting close to getting there own building. Things are going pretty good with the people we teach the Barrons are at a point where they need to make a decision things are getting a little shaky therre but we continue to pray somtimes it just takes more time for some of us. Every one else is doing good..

David's letter June 14, 2010

Dear Family,
Thats sad but at the same time good Tell Grandpa I say hello tomorrow. How is the rest of the family doing. It sounds like grandma was ready to go. We just had a similar experience last month with an elderly guy he was a member but wasn't able to come to church, ever since i got here we had been going over there about once a week to visit him and talk about the gospel. We went to his funeral a few weeks ago but it sounds like he died in a similar way as grandma. ITs not easy to watch it happen but it is a great blessing. We know grandma is in a better place like this guy we visited grandma had a testimony and a knowledge of the plan of salvation and is happily waiting for us. He had a poem read at his funeral it said, Death is the putting out of the Candle because the dawn has come. We know we will be able to see her again, but now its up to us to get where she is. Hope everything is going well for the arrangements let me know how the funeral goes. This week was an alright week we have been staying busy which is good Transfers are coming up this next week. I am interested to see what happens i have already been here for a while but President said that it was a good possibility that i could stay here the rest of my mission which would be exciting these last few weeks have been awesome we have had alot of success whit some inactive families in coming to church the ward is really good about fellowshipping them back in. Our investigators are still doing well not much has changed over this last week we are a little worried about the barron family though there desires are kind of faiding, but we still pray and hope the best. I haven't caught a king yet either there about to close the season early though because its been a real bad run so i'll have to come up again next year. Well have a good week have a good time at the funeral my prayers are with the family and for Grandpa. Remember the plan of salvation is true.

Oops!

Marissa's first attempt at an Angel Food cake. Only ended up being 2" high. I guess there is a reason you are supposed to use a metal or glass bowl instead of plastic. Imagine that!
After thought............she just reminded me it was her second attempt. The first she forgot to turn over to cool and it fell. I guess the third time will have to be the charm.

Nauvoo

We have a generous family in our ward that took the Juniors, Seniors and their parents to Nauvoo for Spring break. Boyd, Abbey and I had a terrific time. Here are a few pictures from our trip.

We visited the stone quarry where they got the stone for the original Nauvoo temple.

Abbey was able to do baptisms while Boyd and I were in a session at the temple.

This picture was taken from the second floor of the Cultural Hall in Nauvoo.

We enjoyed a wagon ride.

Joseph and Emma Smith's house.

Boyd and Abbey were taught how to make rope.

David's letter March 8, 2010

Dear Family,
This week was way good it was kind of weird but in a good way. Thats good to hear that everything is going well and that things are warming up. We had Zone conference this week and a guy from the missionary department of the church came and gave some training which was pretty cool i learned alot. One of the girls that we are teaching in Talkeetna is on date to be baptized her name is Mckenzie her older sister Hayley says she wants to be baptized but that she wants to wait so she will be baptized later on but Mckenzie is on date for the 27 of this month which will be fun. We also were able to have a lesson with the Barrens this week it was way cool the only problem was that it was on the same day we taught the girls in Talkeetna so we put 180 milles on the car that day because they live about 50 miles apart but the lessons were way awesome. Brother Barren and his Wife are really fun to teach you can almost see the light come on in the lesson we gave them a soft baptismal committment which is when you find out these things are true will you be baptized. And Jeff bore his testimony that he is feeling that it is true but that he won't leave his wife behind, and the only hangup for sister Barren is that her mom doesn't like the church that much, but they said that they would talk to her, and they also said that they were praying alot to soften her heart. They are an awesome family and the boys are starting to come out to play ball with us to which is way fun. We taught them the plan of salvation and the lord truely prepared them for this lesson and the members the Taylor family helped out alot by bearing testimony and sister Taylor is a convert as well and bore her testimony of the plan of salvation the spirit was way strong. Brother Barren came to Brother Taylor before we started teaching and said that he was missing something in his life and told brother Taylor that he thinks he had the answers. And at the lesson it was cool he said that the emptiness was being filled he is a way spirtual guy and has a true desire. I have learned a ton from these families it just cool to see how the spirit leads and prepares people and how much our example means. The whole week has been full of great spiritual experience we got some random calls to help people which was super cool because it was on the days where all of the plans were falling through so you ask where do we go now and then you get the call. I've learned alot this week and throughout my time here to better trust in the spirit. Well i hope you have a wonderful week Love Elder Rushton

Dear Family
My new companion is Elder Greenwell from south Jordan Utah. He is a good guy and very excited to work. We had a good week last this last week for the first of the week i was with an elder who was also training till our companions got here on thursday thats how i got down to Anchorage he had to drive. We are starting to get alot more opportunities to teach Last night we started teaching a family of four the father called one of our members and said he wanted whatever he had and he that he was willing to do whatever to get it. It was a pretty awesome lesson he had alot of great questions and the spirit was strong his 17 year old son asked some way good questions to we are very excited to continue to work with them. tonight we have a lesson with another family of 6 but two of the kids are already baptized but the mom and father agreed to take the lessons and so did the other kids. Our other investigators are doing okay one lady we are teaching is struggling with the book of mormon and the girl in Talkeetna is doing really good we just haven't been able to get up there for two weeks but this week we will be teaching her and putting her on date her mom is home this week so we will be able to talk to her about a baptisimal date for the kids. We also have had some great opportunities to do more service and will be chopping more wood this week as well as working with a family that raises pigs im pretty excited for that. Well thanks for all of the love and support hopefully you have a good week Love Elder Rushton

Dear Family,Thats exciting to hear that the play is this week Marissa good luck and have fun. Thats cool to hear you had a good time at Salt Lake with your mom and sisters how are they doing how is Steven and Taylor Doing. And I also got grandmas letter for christmas and Brother Mcgrew tell them sorry I Didn't Write them back yet. This weeks seem to be getting busier and busier but that is also a good thing for out here. This Week we went to Talkeetna again and were able to teach Hayley and her mom was also there so we were able to ask her permission if we could give Hayley a date for baptism she said yes so this week were gonna try going up again to put her and her little sister on date who wants to be baptized to. We also were able to start teaching another family this week which is always exciting. The Barren family who we started teaching last week is doing awesome Jeff the dad is starting to find his answers and better understand the workings of the spirit it been a great learning experience for me to There boys are also way cool we play basketball with them every thusday which is way fun they have some great questions to you can really see how the lord prepares people to except the gospel. The Reese family the ones we picked up this last are an awesome family two of the kids are members but the mom and the boyfriend and two of the kids are not they are a good family and are excited to study the book of mormon as a family the boyfriend mike is the one who seems to want to know the most I think Sister Reese already has a testimony but wants to wait for the family were not to sure yet but she is a great lady. We were also able to start teaching and do alot of service for some lessactive families. This week we are going to get to help build a barn for this family who raises pigs and help them with the pigs i'm pretty excited they got some pretty big pigs. We are also going to help chop some more wood this week, but all is going well its weird it seems like i get more exhausted in a day full of lessons compared to a day full of service but it all feels good at the end of the day. Its pretty funny Elder Greenwell is doing good he is starting to settle in I think it was a pretty big shock for him but all is well. Thanks mom for taking care of the college thing BYUI looks good but what track am i on if possible i don't want to start till Jan. but i also don't want to go to school in the summer, but at the same time your the one doing the work so whatever you feel is good. David's letter January 4, 2010

Dear Family,

Things are going well here I get to stay here with Elder Harding for 6 more weeks at least. Things are starting to pick up here we are truly being blessed with families to work with and new investigators. we picked up a new investigator this week who we are also teaching tonight at bishops house for family home evening. Bishops wife is almost exactly like great grandma smith its pretty funny. Matt is only 14 years old and is the only one in his family who comes to church he comes with his friend Casey who is a recent convert also they are both really good kids and love to come to church. It was pretty funny on New years eve we went to bishops and Casey was there because bishop was taking him and matt to the dance but casey needed a haircut before he went to the dance so Bishop asked if i would do it. It actually didn't turn out to bad he didn't care to much either so it worked out pretty good. We also had a cool inactive family come to church yesterday that was fun we didn't even know about them till we got a random call for a blessing there daughter has been struggling with some pretty crazy things it was an amazing spiritual experience and a humbling and learning experience. I was pretty scared going into the blessing Elder Harding asked if i could give it so we said a prayer before we went in and the Lord truely made up for my weaknesses I felt pretty inadiquate to give the blessing, we knew the family needed spiritual help and we were just praying like crazy that somehow we could help. The lord filled the gap like always i am so very thankful for that the spirit was way cool in that house and they are starting to see the changes they need to make to come back. The rest of our holidays were way fun the members we lived with on new years eve scared the heck out of us we had to be in early so we were just sitting at our desk when all of the sudden we hear this loud bang right by my window then right above us turns out he was chucking dinamite sticks at us it was pretty funny it was shaking the house. It was also pretty cool all fireworks are legal in the city of houston where we live. So we got to see some pretty cool fireworks. Thats cool to here that sacrament meeting was good and that Ben is doing good. Have a good week

Love Elder Rushton
